We'd love to tell you a great story about Charlie
- a 10 year old member of our DAGS family who's been taking lessons for 2 and a half years. He's been recently working hard to learn the song 'Blackbird'
by the Beatles.
David, his teacher, has helped him complete all the skills check lists in his course book, even when things got a little tough. Charlie says it's because of David's patience and experience that he's been able to get through all of the "hard things."
Charlie's persistence to learn the guitar helped him feel like he was picking up valuable life skills. His satisfaction he got from mastering a new fingering or bar chord created more enthusiasm to keep getting better and better at guitar.
According to Charlie, "I like guitar because it's a very good talent to learn. I like my lessons because they are fun and exciting."
Back in June 2017, Charlie played at the Lowry Theatre in a band with other students around his age. They performed TNT
by AC/DC after practicing as a band over a 12-week period mentored by David.
"My favorite part of this was making new friends and feeling confident," according to a very enthusiastic Charlie.
If you'd like to know how to get to be where Charlie is, here are some useful tips:
You don't need longer than 20 mins a day. That's shorter than an episode of Friends. All you have to do is follow your course book and start with about 10 mins of skills. Then spend the next 10 mins working on small bits of the songs you learnt at your lesson. Slowly build up over time, little by little.
- Never give up
- Try your hardest
- Believe you can do it
